This funny illustration was made in 1958 for Aarhus Stiftstidende, the largest newspaper in town, colloquially known as “Stiften”.

In the late 1950s the space race between The United States of America and The Soviet Union was heating up, and of course this created worldwide fascination and interest.

This astronaut is keeping himself up to date in space by reading Stiften, that is “først med det sidste” (translated: “first with the latest”).
