A. M. Hirschsprung & Sons

Ib Antoni had many exciting collaborations with customers from all over the world, including A. M. Hirschsprung & Sons, that was established in 1826 and was one of the large cigar and tobacco factories in Denmark. As far as we know, Ib Antoni only created this one illustration for A. M. Hirschsprung & Sons: The Hunter & Stag. However, we have many wonderful sketches for this cheerful illustration in our archive.

A. M. Hirschsprung & Sons was founded in Østergade 2, in the basement under Hotel D’Angleterre, just a few hundred meters from Kronprinsensgade, where Ib Antoni moved to in 1952 to start his career in Copenhagen. In the 1860s, the Hirschsprung factory moved to a newly built building on Tordenskjoldsgade 7-9, which still exists to this day and is located just behind the Royal Theater in Copenhagen – and only 90 years later, in 1950s, the factory moved to a brand new factory built in Virum, where you can still see the company’s landmark facing Kongevejen – the leaping deer.

As Antoni Legacy is constantly working on cleaning Ib Antoni’s beautiful original drawings, one can never know when a new illustration from Antoni’s hand will see the light of day. But when the illustration is ready for reproduction, it is added to the collection on this page, both under Products, Motifs and the client for which the motif was designed. If you have a special interest in, or further knowledge of the illustration or the customer, you are more than welcome to contact us.
